No.975/1916.

Sir,

Hongkong, 28th November, 1917.

83

Yaumati Ferry Service.

We have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter

of to-day's date and can only express our extreme surprise

that the Government should not have acceded to the extremely

reasonable request as to the postponement of the passing of

the Ferries Ordinance,

+

And we have learnt that the Bill is coming up tomorrow

for its second reading.

Under these circumstances we are compelled to ask that

the second reading be postponed until the return of His

Excellency the Governor; we feel the injustice to our clients

in proceeding with the Bill before the Secretary of State has

been referred to is of such a nature that the question of

postponement of the second reading or not is a matter which

should receive the personal consideration of His Excellency

the Govemor.

We shall be glad to be favoured with an early reply as

possible to this letter.

We have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servants,

Deacon, Looker, Deacon & Harston.

The Hon. Mr. A.G.. Fletcher,

Acting Colonial Secretary.
